Learning Outcomes and Application This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to collect, pack and transport or transfer broodstock and seedstock in a way that minimises stress to stock. It does not include the collection of crocodiles or species from sea by qualified divers.This unit applies to individuals who undertake routine tasks in collecting live stock from the wild and/or on-farm facilities for transport to an aquaculture facility under the direction of a supervisor.All work must be carried out to comply with workplace procedures, according to state/territory health and safety, food safety, biosecurity and environmental regulations, legislation and standards that apply to the workplace. Licences may be required if diving or operating load-shifting equipment, vehicles or vessels.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Element: Prepare for collection of stock
  • Receive and confirm instructions and workplace procedures for collection requirements with supervisor
  • Gather equipment and personal protective equipment and check for serviceability
  • Transfer equipment into collection vehicle and transport to collection area ready for use
       
Element: Collect and transport stock
  • Collect and grade broodstock and seedstock according to workplace quantity and quality requirements
  • Pack broodstock or seedstock for transport according to workplace procedures
  • Transport broodstock or seedstock and transfer safely to culture or holding structures
  • Handle broodstock or seedstock in a way that minimises stress or damage
       
Element: Complete post-collection activities
  • Clean work area and dispose of waste materials safely according to workplace procedures
  • Check and store tools and equipment, reporting any identified repair requirements to supervisor
  • Record relevant data and observations and report any abnormal records to supervisor

Assessment Tasks
